The sun is out.... and our motivation is up. We want to feel good, more energetic and do some of the things we have been putting off for a while. But how do we get started? And more importantly, how do we stay on track. I was listening to a YouTube short by a motivational speaker the other day and he said "If we substitute the word 'Get' for 'Have' then it changes our day completely". Instead of saying 'I have to go to the gym today', we say 'I get to go to the gym today'. I loved that quote so much because it reflects how my mindset has changed toward my workouts over the years. I remember forcing myself to go to the gym when I was in my 20s with the bribe of being able to have a wine afterward. True story. But over the years, I've grown to love working out for the process of it... and being able to appreciate what my body can do. After all, there's no guarantee it'll be able to do this stuff for ever, so I want to make the most of it while I can.
To help you get started and find your own motivation, I want to share with you a document that I use with my PT clients and Team Flex. You can download it by clicking here. Set aside a few minutes this week (or maybe even tonight) to fill it in (either on your phone or on paper) and let's start to visualise what's really important to us. Our goals don't have to be about doing pull-ups or losing 785 lbs... they can simply be to attend our first class, to go for that walk we promised or to finally open that home workout guide we bought for January. I'd love to hear what your goals are after you finish filling this in - hit me up on social media. @annamartinfitness
